Mason Neck State Park is accepting applications for the Trades Technician Supervisor position.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated individual to perform maintenance and repair projects and assist with supervising maintenance operations to include seasonal staff and volunteers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and supervise janitorial duties including cleaning public bathrooms, bathhouses, and park buildings.
- Perform and supervise facility and grounds maintenance including mowing grass, weed eating, and trash and litter removal.
- Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steers, and bobcats.
- Assist with facility inventory organization and provide accurate information for ordering parts and supplies.
- Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Perform skilled facility repairs (drywall installation, electrical, roof installation/repair, boardwalk/boat ramp repairs), skilled equipment repairs (small engine specialty service, diagnostic services/parts ordering), and provide support for trail/volunteer projects, independent project designs, and execution.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Maintenance experience related to the upkeep and repair of park buildings/facilities, grounds, and equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, small/large engine repair, diesel engine repair, hydraulic systems repair, and landscaping.
- General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools, landscaping equipment, cleaning supplies, and ability to organize and perform routine cleaning and maintenance functions.
Additional Considerations
- Previous experience in the following areas: landscaping, trail maintenance, construction, and facility/equipment/vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Experience supervising and training seasonal staff and/or volunteers including delegating assignments and ensuring task completion.
Special Instructions
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
