Sky Meadows State Park is accepting applications for a Trades Technician Supervisor position.
Job Summary:
This position works under minimal supervision, prioritizing tasks, and interacts positively with the public. Supervising the work of the maintenance staff is a major element of this position.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Job duties include construction of park signage and structures, trail maintenance, plumbing and electrical repair projects, maintenance complex organization, natural resource projects, etc.
- Duties entail a variety of tasks, which vary according to the day of the week and the number of visitors or activities ongoing at the park.
- Supervising the work of others.
- Other tasks throughout the season may include: mowing, painting, sawyer work, carpentry, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and assistance with volunteer-based projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience performing preventative maintenance for Groundskeeping, facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
- Experience with trades skills such as construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.
- Previous experience acting as a supervisor or in a lead worker role, as well as working as part of a crew in a team environment.
- Must be willing and able to attend mandatory paid training when needed to comply with OSHA/state requirements.
- Requires a valid Driver's License
- Must be willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays when needed.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience with gardening and general farming practices to include implementing a crop rotation/garden plan and fence construction
- Knowledge of and familiarity with animal husbandry, various livestock, chicken flocks, goats, reptiles, and their levels of care.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, commercial mowing equipment, chain saw equipment, power tools, hand tools, etc.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Normal work hours will be Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with flexibility if needed.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
