High Bridge Trail State Park is accepting applications for the Office Assistant position.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and knowledgeable individual to perform a variety of administrative and financial tasks. This position may serve as a working supervisor at the park office, gift shop, or contact stations and provide support for special events and other tasks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to customer requests in-person, by phone, and email.
- Reconcile revenue for cash registers; prepare cash and credit revenue deposits; enter revenue data into respective software; maintain accurate and neat filing and storage; reconcile financial data; procure goods and services; manage park records; process timesheets and payroll; and process invoices for payment.
- Calculate and enter attendance in a database; return correspondence by phone and email regarding park information, process and handle purchases, revenue and expenditure reporting, banquet hall rental agreements; and conduct inventory counts.
- Perform general office administration duties as assigned
- Maintain cleanliness of visitor center, restrooms, front desk, and other workspaces as requested.
- Available to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated customer service experience.
- Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to accurately handle cash transactions, reconcile registers, complete daily cash management paperwork, and enter data into applicable software systems.
Additional Considerations
- Customer service experience in a park or similar public-facing environment.
- Experience working in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Google applications.
Special Instructions
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free parking or admission to all Virginia State Parks. DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
